Not exactly a hidden gem (as is evident by +1k reviews here), but it kinda felt that way. You’d feel like you are back to school (in the best way possible). They have good selection for breakfast. We got their house breakfast, which was really good and tasty, and the rarebit, which did look unassuming but packed a good punch. Their tea had a good selection too. They have a really cute dining area (think a “harry potteresque” situation, but not too glamorous). Definitely will come back when we visit Oxford again.
This place is a real gem, and I recommend it to anyone visiting Oxford. I happened upon this cafe when it was in its last location, and was sad to hear it had moved to a nearby venue, as feel it really added to the charm of the place. That said, the food and hospitality has remained excellent, and you never leave feeling hungry - there is always more than enough on your plate!

We just dropped by on the way out from Oxford campus. Didn't expect much but the food were surprisingly good. A lot of lunch crowds as well. The curry rice were the highlight
So far, the best scones I’ve ever had is in Oxford. Such a lovely place to enjoy a delicious cup of tea and scones made with fresh ingredients. Highly recommended!
I came because of the book Babel and absolutely loved it. The house tea blend was excellent, and the traditional scone was perfect. I really enjoyed the experience.
The new Vaults & Garden did not disappoint. For years, many people loved the old Vaults & Garden for its historic setting. And yes, that grand space had its charm. But if you’ve been coming as long as I have, you know the real heart of any café isn’t the building — it’s the people. The new location is smaller, tucked into a lovely little nook just off the High Street. On a sunny day, the outdoor seating is a quiet joy. It may not have the same sweeping drama as before, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in warmth. The staff are genuinely kind and attentive, the sort of people who want you to feel at home. The coffee was delightful and smooth as always, and the organic beef was slow cooked to perfection. The food remains exceptionally fresh and thoughtfully prepared. I can say the place is different, certainly. But it hasn’t lost its authenticity or its magic. If anything, it feels more personal now. I’ll definitely be back.
The Oxford breakfast was absolutely delicious, and the scones paired perfectly with an espresso. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with a genuinely friendly vibe that made the experience even more enjoyable. Definitely worth a visit.
My mother and I have loved this place for years from when it was still located in Radcliffe square in the church - that location was so charming and we were so sad to find this year that the cafe was moved! But we were determined to find it and the new location is just across the street, with the same lovely menu. All the food was delicious as always, and the Chai Tea and featured cake (the name of which I don’t remember) with apple and blackberry was unforgettable. What struck me most was that the owner was there, serving us and actively participating in making sure that everyone was having a great experience at his place. The seating area downstairs when we last visited in December was still under decoration and he was there telling us his plans for the place and it was great to see his passion in making the new space as memorable as the last. Please visit the cafe - the food and service is impeccable and so friendly!
Oh my god! Best and biggest scones I have had! The scones was so big, freshly baked and I tried it with raspberries jam this time (yummy). I really liked their tea so I asked the staff for the brand and they told me. Didn’t have to wait and it was a Saturday, so a lot of people in Oxford. Enjoyed it with by book at their seatings outside.
